About E.I.I.I.

E.I.I.I. is four words brought together to form a sound that some languages would recognize as “egg”—be it a very strange and stretched-out EGGGGG, the kind that runs all through your pan with a cracked yolk and the only thing you can really do with it is scramble it. But E.I.I.I. is not an egg, although it’d like to resemble one.

E.I.I.I. is an internet-based multimedia zine which brings together artists, writers, photographers, poets, thinkers and makers to share their thoughts and ideas on one common topic. It is a platform for the talent of the world, where ideas are fostered, kept warm, bred and incubated.

Project Info

The team at E.I.I.I. approached me with a brief to create a vibrant and dynamic visual identity for their platform. The deliverables included designing a colourful and energetic brand identity, a website, and apparel—each featuring a cohesive sense of playful aberration.

The typography had to strike a balance: it needed to be clear and communicative to let the artists' work take centre stage while still having a distinctive personality. This led to the concept of combining two typefaces. The logo design incorporates the shapes of two eggs (a nod to the Dutch word "ei") formed in the negative spaces between the uppercase I's. To tie it all together, an egg-shaped site cursor was introduced as a playful extension of the brand.

The identity has been successfully launched with the first two issues, and more editions are on the horizon.
